(Duryodhana in Dwaraka

Due to being behind, and trying to catch up, I have decided to do a story planning post. I have only read Part A of the Mahabharata, and I definitely want to read more to understand the characters, and a story that really strikes out to me.
I either want to write a story about Duroydhana and his childhood to give an insightful story as to the reason why he becomes the person he does with his characteristics, or I want to write a story regarding the Pandava brothers. I haven't really encountered that many great scenes in the reading that I have done so far, but the idea that keeps coming back to me is the one involving a completely revolutionized story about Duroydhana. We see in the first part of the story that Duroydhana is the one that is always being teased, made fun of, and tricks being played on. These childhood experiences may amount to the reasons why he becomes the person he does in the rest of this book. Allowing myself some time to read the rest of the book this week will give me more insight about the later qualities that he expresses, so that I can come up with a story that would give a reasoning as to why some people turn out the way they do. Clearly, Duryodhana wasn't born a bad person. He just became that way. I want to give a story to represent that.
Additionally, if I see a scene in the book with the Pandava brothers that catches my eye, I would love to do a modernized style with the Pandava brothers. Maybe make them something else other than brothers like for example, sisters, or brothers going to college together. I want to bring the story into a different light surrounding the ideals and characteristics that the Pandava brothers represent.
I hope to finish the book this week, if not next week and have a great story to write about!

The breaking of Duroydhana is an interesting topic to explore. The teasing, sure, can be a reason behind it. You could also research if he is a reincarnation of an evil daemon or god from a past life and write about that if it interests you. Telling a story about his childhood and deeper meaning to some of the teasing events the Pandavas do to him would make for a great rendition.
ReplyDeleteHi Sonali! I look forward to what you come up with for this story. I like the idea of making this story more modern with your characters going to college together—it would be a great twist! You can do a lot with that type of setting. I think including the ideals and characteristics your characterless represent is a great way to include the elements from the original story, but with your own uniqueness. Good luck!
